The album released in 1972 as the seventh installment of the series, "The Music of Africa," by the non-profit organization The International Library of African Music in Washington, United States. This organization, founded by the British ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracy, who engaged in field recordings since the 1920s, focuses on reviving a collection of field recordings of African folk music from the mid-1960s on the Gallotone label in South Africa. This particular album, serving as a sequel to the sixth installment with a focus on the guitar, features recordings of guitar and chants by various ethnic groups, including the Luba and Hemba tribes of Congo, the Swahili, Luo, Xhosa, Ndebele, and Bemba tribes of Kenya, South Africa, and Zambia, respectively. Despite occasional background noise attributed to the original recordings, it is highly recommended for its captivating presentation of non-Western harmonies throughout the entire album.

There are parts where background noise is present, but it is due to the original source recording.
