This album was released in 1972 as the eighth installment in a series that reissued field recordings of African folk music from the mid-1960s, recorded by British ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracy, founder of the non-profit organization The International Library of African Music in Washington, USA. The recordings were made during Tracy's field recording activities in Southern Africa, specifically in the former British colonial territory of Rhodesia. The album features folk music performances using indigenous instruments such as kalimba, sanza, bows, percussion, hand claps, chants, and more, showcasing both common elements found in folk music across Africa and the unique cultural aspects of Southern Africa. The recording quality is excellent, making it highly recommended throughout the entire album.
